A nice pick-me-up after a hectic few weeks: my article being accepted for the Independent Education Magazine. My goal in teaching is to empower our schools and students to a point where they can make a real difference in our environments and the decision-making processes that govern them. In this way, hopefully we can begin to preserve our planet a bit more and look after the creatures that inhabit it alongside ourselves.
In September the Rabbs Fringe-limbed tree frog went extinct. One specimen was saved from a Patagonian forest which was being devastated; it brought into captivity with the hope of being studied or at the very least its DNA being preserved, and this one frog eventually died. A small relatively unknown amphibian has now disappeared and it scarcely made a headline. We were too busy watching the Guptas or the Clinton/Trump fiasco to notice. And this is the problem. Hopefully we can build a generation which does a better job that we have managed thus far.
